Krabi
Krabi has the same turquoise Andaman water as Phuket, with dramatic limestone karst cliffs and a noticeably calmer pace. Railay Beach — reachable only by longtail boat, since cliffs cut it off from the road — is the headline attraction, popular with rock climbers and beach-lovers alike. Dry season runs roughly November–April. It pairs well with Phuket or Koh Lanta for island-hopping.
Krabi gets compared to Phuket constantly, and for good reason — same coast, same turquoise water — but it trades Phuket's built-up energy for dramatic cliffs and a slower rhythm.
Railay Beach — the highlight
Railay is technically a peninsula, but limestone cliffs cut it off from the road entirely, so it's reachable only by a short longtail boat ride from Ao Nang. That isolation is exactly what keeps it feeling special — no traffic, just cliffs, a couple of beaches, and a strong rock-climbing scene.
What to do
- Rock climbing at Railay — one of the best-known climbing spots in Southeast Asia, with routes for complete beginners through experienced climbers.
- Island-hopping day trips — the Four Islands tour (Poda, Tup, Chicken, Phra Nang) is the classic half-day option from Ao Nang.
- Emerald Pool and Hot Springs — an inland day trip through Khao Nor Chuchi forest, a good change of pace from beach days.

Fly into Phuket or Krabi and take a 2–3 hour ferry or minivan between the two — combining them into one island-hopping route is very doable if you have 7+ days in the south.

Same dry season as Phuket, roughly November–April. December–February is peak season — book Railay accommodation well ahead, since rooms there are limited by the cliffs themselves.
